Medal of Honor Rag, a play by Tom Cole, can best be described in this summary from Samuel French: In an army hospital, a black winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor and a psychiatrist, both guilty survivors of Viet Nam, verbally spar until the doctor draws out the horror and disgust that has traumatized D.J. His barriers crumbling, D.J. turns on the psychiatrist and exposes the man behind the professional facade.
I wanted to convey this descent into madness with a very bold and graphic display. The idea of war and the guilt of blood on one's hands inspired me to juxtapose a bright wash of red and the classic form of the Medal of Honor. I used typography that bleeds off the side of the poster and repeats itself to further illustrate the crumbling mental state of the characters in this gritty play.
