It's always a special treat to be able to work on a project that directly helps people. I was approached by Vivayic to assist in their effort to rebrand the Boys and Girls Club of America's youth career and job outreach program, CareerLaunch.
Per the BGCA website, “CareerLaunch encourages Club members ages 13 to 18 to assess their skills and interests, explore careers, make sound educational decisions and prepare to join our nation's work force.”
The BGCA wanted to keep the theme of flight from their previous mark (see below), and that led me down the path of referencing classic space race-era iconography and typography. I created an iconic modern rocket ship, with a dynamic sweeping smoke trail that also makes a stylized "C", and paired it with a modern sans serif typeface.
Part of the requirement was finding a way to incorporate the BGCA branding as part of the logo, so I chose a complementary color scheme to their blue and placed the rocket ship icon so that it would serve as a counterbalance to their mark.
Overall, this was a really rewarding experience and a great opportunity to provide a fresh look on an existing brand.
